The documentary that makes visible the role of women in popular and community sound cultures will be screened on Wednesday, November 12 at the Bogotá Cinemateca, followed by a discussion and musical exhibition.
Bogotá D.C., November 2025 — The La Comadre Foundation presents the special screening of the documentary Amplificadores – Sonideras · Picoteras · Sound System, a work that interweaves the memories, struggles and experiences of women and dissidents that have transformed the sound cultures of the Colombian Caribbean and Mexico. The performance will take place on Wednesday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 3 of the Bogotá Cinematheque, with free entry until capacity is reached.
Directed by Hans Cortés, Diana León and Mariana Delgado, the documentary brings together voices that, from their territories, have made sound a tool of resistance, identity and social transformation. Through testimonies and archives, Amplificadores covers three deeply popular and community musical scenes: the sonidero in Mexico, the picó in Barranquilla and the sound system in Bogotá, making visible the role of women in the construction, maintenance and transmission of these living traditions.
The screening will be accompanied by the discussion “Women who amplify sound culture”, a space for dialogue and reflection on memory, resistance and cultural practices around sound. They will participate:
The day will close with a musical and cultural exhibition that invites us to celebrate the sounds that inspire the documentary: vinyls, festivals, picós and sound systems that narrate the living history of our territories.

Amplificadores is a production of the La Comadre Foundation, made in collaboration with artists and cultural managers from Colombia and Mexico. The project seeks to strengthen links between popular sound communities in the Caribbean and Latin America, promoting memory, gender equality and cultural circulation.
