Bungalo Dub returns to Guadalajara after almost two years — and arrives amplified by Zion Community Sound System

Bungalo Dub is not any name within the Mexican dub. The project was born in Mexico City in the early 2000s, by the hand of Omar Dukas, and became one of the first to merge dub with jungle and drum & bass in the country — a mix that at the time was not common on the national scene. With albums such as Dub Attack, Bassta and Steppa, and collaborations with international dub names such as Zion Train, Kanka and Brother Culture, Bungalo Dub built a catalogue that took him to stages such as Vive Latino and the Reggae Live Festival.

That same project hasn't played in Guadalajara since 2024 — so this date, more than one more night of dub, is a comeback that was expected.

On Saturday, August 22, from 7pm, Deep Club GDL receives a full night of select, without live bands: Dr Myal, Black Lyons and DJ Johky share a selection with Bungalo Dub. Dr Myal is from home — tapatío, with a wide trajectory within the local dub reggae that has seen him be part of the Guadalajara scene for more than a decade. Black Lyons, also from Guadalajara, selects that night, but also has its own sound system — a dual presence within the city's sound culture.

All this amplified by Zion Community Sound System, which puts the physical system for the night. Those who select are only those in the lineup — Zion enters as the power behind the sound, not as an additional select.

It is that kind of dance that does not need filling: pure dubwise, warming up the atmosphere from early on and letting the sound do the work. If you are part of the party that lives the sound system culture, this is just the type of night to have marked on the calendar — especially knowing that Bungalo Dub does not return so often to the city.
