Monte Bong celebrates 25 years of Mexican reggae with Laguna Pai and Lengualerta in Zapopan
A quarter of a century is no small feat within the independent reggae scene in Mexico. Monte Bong fulfills it this year, and is going to celebrate it three times: on Saturday, October 10, the C4 Concert House in Zapopan (metropolitan area of Guadalajara) becomes the meeting point for a night of hymns, new songs and Latin American brotherhood.
Twenty-five years of shows, of tours, of building sonic identity from cultural resistance — and now it's time to blow out the candles to the live project, with the entire reggae family present. The repertoire promises a journey through the anthems that have accompanied different generations, plus the premiere of songs that mark the beginning of a new stage for the band.
For the occasion, Monte Bong does not take the stage alone. Laguna Pai joins us, one of the leaders of South American reggae, who arrives from Peru on a Latin American tour presenting Visiones, his most recent production, in addition to reviewing the classics that consolidated him on the scene. Lengualerta also plays, from CDMX, celebrating its own 20 years of experience with the message of consciousness and social transformation that distinguishes it within the Mexican sound system culture. The line-up is completed with a guest sound system that has not yet been announced — as soon as it is confirmed, we will update it.
Tonight's vibe is not just a pretty poster: three projects, three trajectories, the same territory — reggae done in Spanish, with Latin American roots and a conscious message. Big up for the three bands for continuing to raffle after so much progress.
